Publication: “Functional Differences in Engineered Myocardium from Embryonic Stem Cell-Derived versus Neonatal Cardiomyocytes”

Prof. Feinberg is the lead author on a new publication in the journal Stem Cell Reports describing the functional comparison of cardiac muscle engineered from neonatal mouse cardiomyocytes versus cardiomyocytes derived from mouse embryonic stem cells.  The study highlights the functional immaturity of stem cell derived cardiomyocytes in terms of electrophysiology and contractility at the tissue scale.

Welcome to undergraduates Anshul, Danny, Rahul and Shigeto working in the lab this summer!

We are pleased to welcome four undergraduates working in the lab this summer on a range of projects.   Anshul Dhanker and Rahul Kurl have both received the highly competitive Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the Undergraduate Research Office at CMU.  Shigeto Ono has received funding from the Summer Undergraduate Research Program through the BME Department.  Danny Shue is a rising sophomore gaining research experience.

Quentin and John have Received the BME Teaching Award

Congratulations to Quentin Jallerat and John Szymanksi for receiving the BME Department’s 2012-2013 Teaching Award for excellence.   They share this award for their hard work as TA’s in the Tissue Engineering course, where they received outstanding evaluations from the students.

Adam Feinberg receives the George Tallmann Ladd Research Award from the Carnegie Institute of Technology

Prof. Adam Feinberg has been selected to receive the 2012 George Tallmann Ladd Research Award from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (College of Engineering) at Carnegie Mellon University.

For 2012… “The George Tallmann Ladd Research Award was given to David Brumley, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Adam W. Feinberg, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and of Materials Science and Engineering. Brumley was awarded for the development of techniques for automatic exploit generation, formal methods and analysis to improve software system security. Feinberg received the award for basic research and technological development of new paradigms toward the facilitation of regeneration of a wide variety of tissues following damage by disease or wound.”
